Campbell River Terminal Moving to New and Larger Location

New Campbell River Terminal
New Campbell River Terminal

In 2010 R & B Trucking Ltd opened a Campbell River terminal to better serve the North Island.

Previously, the Island owned company, who’s head office is located in Nanaimo had dispatched trucks with freight bound for the north island from their Nanaimo terminal. The location for the first Campbell River Terminal was Tamarac Street and it’s 2,500 square foot size seemed adequate at the time.

With R & B Trucking Ltd.’s already long established freight routes and customer base, the new terminal and it’s services quickly grew in popularity.

Many of the north island communities are isolated by the sea or by rough terrain making transportation of freight, especially temperature controlled freight, challenging. Terminal manager Mike Munro’s experience and local knowledge helped deliver R & B Trucking Ltd.’s superior south island service to the northern rural areas.

R & B Trucking Ltd.’s custom freight solutions help area business owners by making a real difference in the costs and level of service that they’re able to provide to their customers.

Many north island businesses suffer from the high transportation costs associated with being based on the island. Campbell River Shake and Shingle, a local business that specializes in cedar shingle roofing, also operates a shingle mill. Jeremy, the Mill Owner and Manager said:

“R & B Trucking’s economical freight solutions help us stay competitive when shipping products to the lower mainland and other areas of British Columbia.”

Dan from Renuable Resources says:

“R & B Trucking is accommodating and reliable, they’ve helped streamline the distribution of our products to the marketplace”.

Regular scheduled service to most Vancouver Island towns and the expansion of services to Cortes Island and Powell River made R & B Trucking Ltd. one of the busiest freight movers on the Island.

With this reach and level of service it became more economical for other freight carriers from down island and the mainland to choose R & B Trucking Ltd. to deliver their goods. The Campbell River terminal is now one of the largest cross docking facilities on the north island.

This increased traffic and freight to the Campbell River terminal led to the decision to expand to a larger facility. In early 2014 construction began in the Duncan Bay Industrial Park.

The new facility boasts 6,500 square feet of warehouse space, 6 loading bays and two large state of the art temperature controlled environments. Cross docking and freight distribution will be streamlined more effectively to help facilitate quick loading and unloading of trailers. The area is already convenient to truck traffic and is better able to house the constantly growing business.

Once in full operation, the new terminal will help support the ever growing demand for R & B Trucking Ltd.’s freight transportation and services.

Check back soon for more information about the new terminal and when it will be completed.

Hybrid-Electric Truck

In 2009 R & B Trucking Ltd. purchased a diesel-electric Hybrid refrigerated truck.

The first of it’s kind in North America, this truck also boasts an electric refrigeration unit making it perfect for urban deliveries.

We’re proud to take a leadership role in this area. With the long-term cost of diesel rising, we’re looking forward to seeing a big drop in our fuel bill. We’re also excited to be doing our part for the environment.

Participants in Green Fleets BC’s enviroTruck program.

“We congratulate R & B Trucking Ltd. for being the first urban delivery fleet to bring this combination of technologies to North America. The data we generate with R&B will show urban delivery companies that there are financial benefits to going green.”

Said David Marshall Executive Director for the Fraser Basin Council. For more information about Green Fleets, please click here to visit their website.
